Plagiarism Policy
Jurnal FisTa: Fisika dan Terapannya is committed to maintaining originality, academic integrity, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. The journal strictly prohibits plagiarism and other forms of inappropriate use of published or unpublished scholarly work.
All manuscripts submitted to the journal, including Research Articles and Review Articles, are subject to plagiarism screening and editorial assessment before publication.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the use of another person's words, ideas, data, research findings, images, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment of the original source.
Plagiarism may include, but is not limited to, the following practices:
- Copying text from published or unpublished sources without appropriate citation or quotation.
- Paraphrasing another author's ideas or findings without acknowledging the original source.
- Using figures, tables, images, data, or research results from other sources without proper attribution or necessary permission.
- Presenting another researcher's scientific ideas, methods, or interpretations as original work.
- Reusing substantial portions of previously published work without appropriate acknowledgment or disclosure (self-plagiarism).
- Translating material from another language and presenting it as original work without appropriate citation.
The journal considers plagiarism a serious violation of publication ethics, regardless of whether the source material is available in print or electronic form.
2. Plagiarism Screening
Jurnal FisTa screens submitted manuscripts using similarity detection software, such as Turnitin or equivalent tools, as part of its initial editorial evaluation.
The journal applies a maximum similarity index of 20%, excluding properly quoted material and reference lists, in accordance with its editorial screening policy.
A similarity report is used to identify textual overlap with existing sources. However, a similarity score does not independently establish whether plagiarism has occurred.
The editorial team evaluates the nature, extent, and context of identified similarities, including the adequacy of citations, the originality of the manuscript, and the possible reuse of previously published material.
Manuscripts with similarity scores below 20% may still be considered problematic when unattributed copying or other forms of plagiarism are identified. Conversely, legitimate similarities, including appropriately cited or quoted material, are evaluated in their proper context.
3. Editorial Assessment and Decision
The editorial team evaluates plagiarism screening results before determining whether a manuscript may proceed to peer review.
Depending on the similarity report and the nature of the identified overlap, the editorial team may:
- Allow the manuscript to proceed to the next editorial stage when no significant plagiarism concerns are identified.
- Request clarification, correction of citations, or revision of overlapping passages.
- Request a revised manuscript for further similarity screening.
- Decline a manuscript that does not meet the journal's originality and publication ethics requirements.
- Investigate indications of serious plagiarism or other research misconduct in accordance with the journal's editorial procedures.
Editorial decisions are based on the assessment of the manuscript and supporting evidence, rather than solely on the numerical similarity index.
4. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts represent original scholarly work and comply with the journal's plagiarism policy.
Authors must:
- Clearly acknowledge all sources of information, ideas, methods, data, and research findings used in the manuscript.
- Use appropriate citations and quotation practices when referring to previously published materials.
- Ensure that paraphrased information accurately represents the original source and is properly cited.
- Disclose relevant overlap with their own previous publications when applicable.
- Obtain necessary permission when reproducing copyrighted materials.
- Respond to editorial requests for clarification or revision concerning identified similarities.
- Ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal and has not been published previously in substantially the same form.
Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of all content submitted for publication.
5. Plagiarism Identified After Publication
If suspected plagiarism is reported or identified after an article has been published, the editorial team will assess the allegation and review the available evidence.
The author(s) concerned will be given an opportunity to provide clarification or supporting information before an appropriate editorial decision is made.
Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, the journal may issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction in accordance with its publication ethics and editorial policies.
The journal is committed to handling allegations fairly, objectively, and with appropriate confidentiality, following relevant principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
6. Commitment to Research Integrity
Jurnal FisTa: Fisika dan Terapannya promotes responsible scholarly writing, accurate attribution, transparency, and respect for intellectual contributions.
Plagiarism screening is an essential component of the journal's editorial quality assurance procedures and supports the publication of original, reliable, and ethically prepared scientific manuscripts.
