Corrections and Retractions
Jurnal FisTa: Fisika dan Terapannya is committed to maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes the importance of correcting errors and addressing concerns identified after publication. Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are handled in accordance with the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Editorial actions are determined based on the nature and severity of the identified issues, with the primary objective of maintaining the integrity of the published scientific literature rather than imposing punitive measures on authors.
Corrections
Corrections may be issued when errors are identified in a published article but do not substantially affect the reliability of its findings, interpretations, or conclusions.
Such errors may include inaccuracies in data presentation, figures, tables, author information, references, or other aspects of the publication that require clarification or amendment.
When a correction is necessary, the editorial team will evaluate the reported error and, where appropriate, publish a correction notice describing the changes. The correction notice will be linked to the original article to ensure transparency and maintain the accuracy of the publication record.
Expressions of Concern
An expression of concern may be issued when serious questions arise regarding the reliability or integrity of a published article, but the available evidence is insufficient to justify an immediate correction or retraction.
This action may be considered when an investigation is ongoing, when evidence remains inconclusive, or when unresolved concerns could affect readers' interpretation of the published findings.
The expression of concern will clearly identify the article concerned and explain the nature of the issue without making unsupported allegations. Following further investigation, the editorial team may publish an additional notice, issue a correction, retract the article, or clarify that the concerns have been resolved.
Retractions
Retraction may be considered when a published article contains serious errors or ethical violations that substantially undermine the reliability, validity, or integrity of its findings.
Circumstances that may justify retraction include:
- Unreliable findings resulting from major methodological errors, incorrect analyses, or other substantial problems.
- Fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation of research data or scientific images.
- Plagiarism or substantial unattributed use of previously published work.
- Duplicate or redundant publication without appropriate disclosure.
- Serious violations of research ethics that compromise the validity or integrity of the published work.
- Other significant circumstances that make the article's findings unreliable.
A retraction may result from honest errors or research misconduct. The editorial team will distinguish between these circumstances when explaining the reasons for the decision.
Retraction decisions will be made after appropriate editorial assessment and consideration of the available evidence. Authors will be given an opportunity to provide clarification, although a retraction may proceed without their agreement when sufficient evidence establishes that the publication is unreliable.
Reporting Errors and Publication Concerns
Authors, reviewers, readers, and other concerned parties may report errors or concerns regarding published articles to the Editor in Chief through the journal's official contact information.
Reports should include the article title, author information, DOI (if available), a clear description of the identified issue, and relevant supporting evidence.
Authors who discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work are expected to promptly notify the editorial team and cooperate in determining the appropriate corrective action.
Editorial Assessment and Decision-Making
Upon receiving a report, the editorial team will conduct an initial assessment to determine the nature and significance of the concern. Additional information may be requested from the authors or other relevant parties when necessary.
For complex or serious cases, the journal may consult independent experts, relevant institutions, or other appropriate authorities to support a fair and objective evaluation.
Editors with potential conflicts of interest must not participate in handling the relevant case. Editorial decisions will be based on the available evidence, the reliability of the published findings, and applicable publication ethics guidelines.
Publication and Accessibility of Editorial Notices
All correction, expression of concern, and retraction notices will be clearly identified and linked to the corresponding published articles. Notices will explain the reasons for the editorial action and provide sufficient information to help readers understand its implications.
Retracted articles will ordinarily remain accessible in the journal's publication archive, with their retracted status clearly indicated. The original publication record will be preserved to maintain transparency and prevent confusion regarding previously published or cited research.
Where technically possible, the journal will update relevant article metadata and publication records to reflect the correction or retraction status.
